The Epson Stylus SX400 is a multifunction printer, scanner, copier that offers versatility at an affordable price tag. There are lots of devices for the SX400 to compete with in this category but the SX40 has a slight advantage over them with its printer ink system. The Epson SX400 ink cartridges are made up of four individual Epson ink cartridges which although are quite expensive at £30 work out to be economical because the cartridges can be changed separately and therefore no ink gets wasted when only one colours has run out. Epson have made some improvements to the built quality of their machines with the introduction of the SX stylus range and this translates into the SX400 have a solid and robust feel. Operation noise has also been a problem with Epson printers through the range and this remains a problem with the SX400 especially when it’s printing. Fortunately the print quality makes up for this, the SX400 produces great quality results for all types of documents from basic text to high resolution graphics and photographs. As well printing, the SX400 offers up A4 scanning facilities and is capable of scanning with speed and efficiency. The photo copier works without the need for the device to be connected to a computer which is great for copying in a rush or even if you don’t have a computer. Overall the SX400 offers great versatility and with the availability of cheap compatible cartridges and a low purchase price it is excellent value for money.

Epson Stylus D92 – cheap to run inkjet

Ξ September 23rd, 2009 | → 0 Comments | ∇ General, Shopping, Technology |

A lot of budget inkjet printer seem like a bargain on the surface but have sting in their tail in terms of the cost of the printer ink cartridges they use. Epson D92 ink cartridges in genuine Epson form cost the same price for a full set as the D92 printer itself does. Fortunately there are compatible printer cartridges available for the Stylus D92 and they cost a lot less than the genuine Epson ones and still print the same amount. Another trap a lot of people fall into when buying a budget printer like the D92 is taking everything they read on the printer’s spec sheet at face value. Printer manufacturers try their hardest to get you to buy their printer so they you’ll then buy lots of ink for it and this leads to them bending the true slightly on the official specifications of the printer. Take the printing speed of the D92 for example, it is stated that it is capable of printing 25 pages per minute, but what is doesn’t say is that is figure is only achieved when printing is draft quality and each pages only containing a few lines of text, as a are result the real world speed of the D92 is 2.5 pages per minute. So before buying any inkjet printer try to do some real world research into the printer first such as asking on internet forums if anyone has bought the printer and what they think of it, and also read customer reviews from websites who sell the printer. This will give you a better understanding of the printer’s value for money and help you determine if it is suitable for your individual requirements.

Samsung CLP-300 Entry level colour lacer printer

Ξ August 19th, 2009 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Business, General, Technology |

Inkjet printers might be the dominant force for home and small office users but there sometimes these users need something a little better. When you’re regularly printing high volumes inkjets can be expensive to run and just aren’t capable of the sort of speed needed. The Samsung CLP-300 is an alternative colour laser printer that does all the things inkjets are lacking and at a reasonable price as well. Samsung CLP-300 toner cartridges are reasonably priced and are the equivalent of buying two sets of inkjet printer cartridges for your average inkjet printer but they print a lot more than your average set of inkjet cartridge. There are four Samsung toner cartridges in all, one for each colour and they yield 1,000 pages each from the colours and 2,000 pages from the black. With a colour laser printer at this price there are some inevitable compromises one of which is the colour printing, while printing graphics is fine it when it comes to printing photographs that he CLP-300 starts to struggle. There’s nothing to complain about with the printing speed of the CLP-300 it even gets very close to the official figure of 16ppm in mono and 4ppm in colour printing which is rare because the manufactures always exaggerate these figures. The built quality of the CLP-300 is pretty average some of the plastics feel a bit flimsy and the overall design of the machine is not particularly attractive, its definitely more function over form with this printer. As a result the Samsung CLP-300 is a good all-round colour laser printer that does what it says on the tin.
